An Bord Pleanála have granted planning permission for a purpose-built student accommodation scheme at Mardyke Walk. Ideally located just 300 metres from University College Cork main campus and directly opposite the main entrance to Fitzgerald Park, the development will deliver an additional 41 no. bed spaces to the student housing market. The Board considered the ability to walk and cycle from the development to the main campus of UCC, and the absence of onsite parking to be key to the sustainable development of the area.

Cork based company Mideam Ltd., a highly experienced student accommodation provider are the driving force behind the development. McCutcheon Halley acted as planning consultants, working with a multidisciplinary team which included Deady Gahan Architects, JBA Consulting Engineers and John Cronin and Associates Heritage Consultants. The high-quality design of the scheme is a direct response to the site context and will visually improve the streetscape of the Mardyke Walk Architectural Conservation Area. Crucially, the development will make a positive contribution to the significant demand for purpose-built student accommodation in Cork City, which is critical to reducing the overall pressure on the city’s private housing sector.
