An Bord Pleanala have granted permission to Cairn Homes for 472 no. residential units in a mix of houses and apartments, a creche and all associated development works at Castletreasure, Douglas, Cork. This scheme also includes a variety of open spaces and recreational facilities, including a large central parkland and an extension to the Ballybrack Greenway.

This positive decision follows an oral hearing held by the Board, only the second of its kind under the provisions of the Planning and Development (Housing) and Residential Tenancies Act 2016. The oral hearing was held in respect of a limited agenda, to discuss and clarify site-specific details regarding surface water management. In their decision to grant permission for the scheme, the Board considered that the development is in accordance with the proper planning and sustainable development of the area, and will provide a high quality scheme that directly responds to its context. Once completed, the development will provide much needed housing in the south environs of Cork City.
